MEET OUR SPEAKERS

Helen Hutchison has been a member of the League of Women Voters since 1969. She and her family have moved around the country, providing many opportunities to join Leagues in different cities: Claremont, California; Newton, Massachusetts; Los Angeles; Claremont (again); Clackamas County, Oregon; DeKalb County, Georgia; and Oakland. She served on the Boards of the Claremont, Clackamas County and Oakland Leagues in a variety of jobs. Each League has provided new areas to learn about and get active in.

Helen was the president of the LWV Oakland from 2003 to 2007, and served on the LWV California board from 2008 to 2013, including as President of the LWV California from 2014 to 2019.

Professionally Helen is a retired computer systems analyst. She is an active member of Montclair Presbyterian Church in Oakland, where she chaired the Building Renovation Committee.


Marcia Johnson is a co-director of the Lawyers' Committee's Voting Rights Project. She oversees the Project’s programmatic and advocacy portfolios which includes convening Election Protection, the nation's largest non-partisan voter protection coalition; addressing persistent undercount of African Americans in the U.S. census; ensuring minority participation in the redistricting process; researching and documenting the history of discrimination in voting; advocating for the restoration of the full protections of the Voting Rights Act and national electoral reform, including testifying before the U.S. Congress; and advocating for the full restoration of voting rights for those with felony convictions. She served on the litigation teams defending the constitutionality of the Voting Rights Act. She also coordinates the Lawyer’s Committee’s international human rights initiatives including monitoring U.S. compliance with its treaty obligations. Marcia received her Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law and her Bachelor of Science in Linguistics from Georgetown University.


Anna Chu is a long time advocate and champion of civil rights. As Executive Director of We The Action, she channels her prior experience leading civil rights coalitions, fighting for gender justice, and advocating for economic security to mobilize the broader legal community to support social progress. Anna is an alumni of the National Women's Law Center and the Center for American Progress. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley and the University of Southern California Law School and was formerly a judicial law clerk and an associate at Paul Hastings LLP.


Dena Belinkoff is a Member of the VoPro Pros Leadership Team. She was the Volunteer Voter Protection Director in 2022 and worked on the Josh Harder for Congress Re-election Campaign (CA-9). Dena is the Retired Vice President of the Legal Department at Kaiser Foundation Health Plan/Hospitals. BA, JD UC Berkeley.
