Highlights (continued...)
Like most organizations, Queen's Bench works through committees to achieve its many goals. These committees organize and sponsor programs to eliminate gender bias in the legal community, to encourage upward mobility of women lawyers in private practice, to protect and preserve reproductive rights, and to encourage adoption of legislative and judicial reforms. We sponsor periodic employment surveys, work to increase the representation of women on the bench, and write amicus briefs on major issues affecting women and our world today. Queen's Bench also supports numerous community projects, including biweekly social visits with young women incarcerated in San Francisco’s Juvenile Hall and sponsoring scholarships for promising women law students at Hastings and University of San Francisco law schools.
In addition to committee activities, Queen's Bench sponsors ongoing events and meetings geared towards meeting the professional needs of lawyers, judges and law students. Our events frequently feature prominent and respected professionals in areas of interest to our members on substantive legal topics and issues of concern to women. Queen’s Bench is a registered provider of continuing legal education and many of our programs qualify for MCLE credit.
Our past speakers include exceptional women of national prominence, including Isabel Allende, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, Congresswomen Nancy Pelosi, Eleanor Holmes Norton and Pat Schroeder, and the Honorable Justices Joyce Kennard and Kathryn M. Werdegar of the California Supreme Court. Queen's Bench members receive a monthly newsletter with details of upcoming events and items of interest to women and women lawyers.
Queen's Bench welcomes all members of the legal profession and law students, who share our commitment to equal rights and equal opportunity, to join our proud tradition, to share in our activities, and to work for the achievement of our important goals. |
